South Plaza
From April 2011 the Library and
Information Service at North Bristol NHS Trust will manage the former KRIS
Library Service for staff employed by Bristol Community Health.
There will be an NBT library staff
member at South Plaza From 9.30 – 11.30 on Mondays to help with any queries,
training or searches.
You will also
be able to access interlibrary loans, literature searches, and training either
through visits to either of the libraries or from your workplace by email or
phone.
The
NBT Library Service
has libraries
at
the hospitals
at Frenchay and Southmead and Library users need only register for membership at
one site for access to both the libraries.
Facilities
at the
libraries include books, journals, photocopiers, study areas and computers. We
can also provide training in database searching.
Joining the
Library
- if you previously had KRIS membership this will continue as NBT membership. To
join NBT libraries please contact either Southmead or Frenchay Library.

Library Catalogue
This catalogue
covers healthcare libraries across the South and West. If you would like to
borrow a book from a library other than Frenchay or Southmead please apply for
an interlibrary loan. You need to have a library membership to apply for
interlibrary loans.

SWICE
(South West Information for Clinical Effectiveness) is provided by the South
West NHS Strategic Health Authority.
The service provides free access to eight bibliographical databases and a range
of full text electronic journals and electronic books.
Access is available in the workplace, library or home, using NHSNet/local
intranet or the Internet. For access through the Internet an ATHENS password is
required (see below for how to get one)

Athens password
You can apply
for an Athens password to access many library resources. There are electronic book and journal collections from the world’s major
publishers such as: Blackwell Science; Oxford University Press; Springer; Taylor
& Francis; and Wiley. You will need an
Athens username and password to access the e-Books.Choose
South West SHA, then NHS Avon and then Bristol PCT.
Somerset House, Southmead Hospital
A smaller collection of books are held at our Southmead base concentrating mainly on health promotion issues. Please contact the team there to find out if they hold a particular book as at present access to their catalogue is not available via the internet. Contact details below:

The NHS regional library catalogue is available on the web through the South
West Information Management System (SWIMS) and can be found at the following link:
The SWIMS catalogue provides details of all books held in healthcare libraries across the South and West region.
The catalogue has a useful search facility and details about the books include
their location and availability. The location code for King Square House is KSH.
University of Bristol Library
NHS members of staff are able to join the University of Bristol library
system to gain access to the collections in the
University Medical Library. The library is located at School of Medical

University of the West of England (UWE)
UWE has libraries on a number of their campus sites. The link below takes you
