Bristol Royal Infirmary & Bristol Royal Children's Hospital

Bristol Heart Institute

Artists impression

This is the biggest new build at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust for 30 years and will greatly improve adult heart and chest services for patients across the South West of England, providing a world-class state-of-the art facility under one roof.

The cardiac theatre suite is a first for the country, as it will enable cardiac surgical teams, cardiologists and radiologists to work together on complex cases. This will mean patients will no longer have to be moved between departments for multiple procedures.

This investment will substantially improve the patient environment and allow thousands of Bristol and South West patients access to life saving treatment.

The centre is due to open in May 2009.

Bristol Royal Infirmary Upgrade

Parts of the Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital complex are to be upgraded and modernised. As part of this work the Bristol Royal Infirmary Old Building will be closed down and the services currently provided there will be moved into more modern buildings in the Bristol Royal Infirmary complex.

The Bristol Royal Infirmary

Bristol Royal Children's Hospital

All in-patient care for children is being centralised at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The first phase of the centralisation has been completed, with the relocation of children’s ENT services and Southmead in-patient paediatric services. Neurosurgery, plastic surgery and burns facilities for children will be final phase. The majority of children that come to Frenchay or Southmead for minor injuries and illnesses will continue to do so.
