Mental Health Service Design and Development
The Mental Health Service Development Group is made up of a range of stakeholders from the following groups:
- Clinical representation: primary and secondary care
- Commissioning representation (local NHS Trusts)
- Managerial representation: primary and secondary care
- Public Health
- Patient/User/Carer representation
- Voluntary and community organisations

The group has a range of objectives to improve mental health services throughout the Bristol region. These include developing a plan that provides:
- A commitment to make real choice available to service users
- Services designed to meet the needs of those who use them – and evaluated on the basis of the impact they have on service users’ quality of life
- A ‘recovery’ approach to treatment and support – reflecting and supporting individual needs and choices; inclusive of wider aspects of people’s lives; and based on a sense of optimism about people’s future prospects
- Services based on equality of access and reflective of the full diversity of the community in Bristol
- Recognition of the needs of carers as well as the important role they play and the expertise they have
- A partnership approach to working with all sectors of service providers to deliver the aims of our Vision
- A recognition of the pressures and constraints on staff – and the central role they have in delivering our Vision for the future.
