Elective Care Service Design and Development
The Elective Care Service Development Group is made up of a range of stakeholders from the following groups:
- Clinical representation: primary and secondary care

- Commissioning representation (local NHS Trusts)
- Managerial representation: primary and secondary care
- Public Health
- Patient/user representation
- Voluntary and community organisations
The group has a range of objectives to improve elective surgery services throughout the Bristol region. These include developing a plan that:
- assesses the effectiveness of direct
to test protocols and expand range of protocols where
appropriate.
- examines the national work in shifting elective work
closer to home and determine where approaches can be adopted
locally.
- reviews the implementation of current surgery pathways
to make recommendations for wider adoption.
- develops options for advice and guidance referrals to
replace outpatient consultation where appropriate.
- optimises referral efficiency across elective care
pathways including effective transfer of clinical
information at each hand off.
- develops a clear framework across the health community for planned surgical listings.
